Who was Mir Ghulam Murtaza Bhutto?

Mir Ghulam Murtaza Bhutto was born on September 18, 1954. He was the eldest son of Pakistani politician Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto’s first marriage was in 1943 to Shereen Amir Begum. And his second marriage was in 1951 to Nusrat Bhutto.

Nusrat Bhutto was an Iranian of Kurdish descent. Zulfiqar and Nusrat Bhutto had four children. Their children were Benazir Bhutto, Mir Murtaza, Sanam Bhutto, and Shahnawaz Bhutto.

Murtaza Bhutto’s early education

Murtaza Bhutto received his early education from Karachi Grammar School. First from Harvard University in the United States and then from Oxford University in the United Kingdom.

What happened on September 20, 1996?

On that day, Murtaza Bhutto had to go to Surjani Town for a meeting. Two decisions take that day. One done by the police and the other by Murtaza Bhutto.

Murtaza Bhutto had decided to hold a press conference before the meeting. On the other side, the police decided to stop Murtaza Bhutto and his associates and checked their weapons licenses.

Murtaza Bhutto left 70 Clifton to attend the rally. A police contingent was already on the Iranian highway in front of 70 Clifton. Police tried to block the way of Murtaza Bhutto’s convoy. But any vehicle in Murtaza Bhutto’s convoy left without stopping.

After that, the police change their plan. They decided to allow the Murtaza Bhutto’s car to enter the house when they returned. But the vehicles behind him would stop and the weapons license would be checked.

According to the plan, when the convoy returned, the police allowed the first vehicle to go. They thought that its Murtaza Bhutto’s vehicle. And they blocked the way of the second vehicle coming behind. And this other car belonged to Ashiq Jatoi, a close associate of Murtaza Bhutto.

After that, the issue escalates to bitter rhetoric, and Mir Murtaza Bhutto along with his associates killed during the rule of his sister Benazir Bhutto
