Today we are sharing with you how to improve essay writing and will also share some essay writing tips. If you have been writing an essay at all, then you have probably heard the famous words: “writing rules of writing” and “tone of writing”. These two concepts are the basis for a successful essay. Essays are never complete without these two main parts. Here are rules of writing that will guide you through your essay writing journey.
Research your topic
First, make sure your essay is focused. Research your topic. Determine the main idea of your essay. This is where most writers go wrong. Most people start an essay with an introduction, and this is a mistake. If you do not have a strong introduction to your essay, then it is very hard to maintain focus throughout the entire length of the essay.
Next, be concise. One of the rules of writing that should not be ignored is to be concise in your essay content. Stay away from excessive descriptions and use big bold letters whenever necessary. The main idea of your essay should be clear and your paragraphs should make the points you are trying to make clear.
Use an introductory paragraph
Next, use an introductory paragraph that sums up the main idea of your essay. Begin each paragraph by stating the main idea in a positive way. Repeat this process within the essay. It is important to keep your paragraphs consistent so that readers understand the direction you are taking in your main idea. A catchy opening will help increase your reader’s interest in reading your essay.
Choose your tone of writing
Next, you should choose your tone of writing. This is a simple concept but one that many people forget. When choosing your tone of writing, you want to be casual and relaxed or you can choose to be more formal. There are different rules for different types of writing so don’t try to use the same rules for everything.
Rules of writing
If you are going to use any rules of writing, then you should write down all of them before you begin writing your essay. Writing rules can be found all over the internet, in books, and even on different television stations and radio shows. All of these rules can help you out when it comes to creating a great main idea. Even if you don’t think there are any rules, chances are there are rules you are forgetting.
Structure of your main idea
You also have to take into consideration the structure of your main idea. Each rule may seem obvious but you would be surprised at how many writers fail to follow these rules. For example, don’t ever start a main argument with the opening line. The reason why this is so important is that you want to give your readers time to think about what you are saying before they decide whether or not they believe your main idea. Opening lines often lead the reader to a conclusion that contradicts their initial belief which leads to the downfall of their reading experience.
Use definite & indefinite pronouns correctly
Also, when writing makes sure to use the definite and indefinite pronouns correctly. Don’t try to make your main ideas into titles; instead, write the title as a question. For example, “The man who killed my brother.” Just remember, these rules will help you out tremendously while writing, but they’re just the basics and aren’t a set in stone rule for writing; however, writing each rule in the main idea will help you become a better writer.
Avoid repeating information
So what else should you pay attention to? Well, one of the biggest problems with writing is that you’re creating stories instead of articles. Articles are supposed to be informative pieces that provide information on a particular subject while writing a story is meant to be more of a fiction novel. As such, you need to understand this difference when writing so that you can avoid repeating information from other sources.
Properly introduce your main idea
Also, another thing that you must learn is how to properly introduce your main idea. Introducing your main idea in your article will make your readers think about the main idea behind the article. Just remember that you need to do this gently so that you don’t hurt your reader’s mental digestion. Introduce each main idea one at a time in your essay and gradually introduce the other ideas as well.
Finally, I want to share a simple tip that I hope every article writer can take note of. If you have an idea in mind but you don’t know how to begin writing it, try using the ‘Reread This’ concept. What I mean by this is, instead of just re-writing your article from scratch, why don’t you take a different perspective and re-write your previous paragraphs, introducing your new idea? This is known as re-reading your article and finding places where you may have omitted an essential part of the article.
